At WireWizardsTECH, we specialise in reliable long-range wireless solutions for homes, farms and businesses across Herefordshire. This recent project shows exactly what a professional point-to-point WiFi bridge can achieve when cabling is impractical or too expensive.
And we must add, were happy to be home back from Sussex.
The Challenge
We needed to create a stable, high-speed wireless link across approximately 0.8 miles of open water. Traditional cabling was not an option due to distance, cost and disruption. The solution had to be fast to install, weatherproof, and deliver consistent performance.
The Solution
We installed a Ubiquiti UDB-Pro (UniFi Device Bridge Pro) wireless bridge system. One unit was mounted at height on a control tower, the second unit locked onto the target building across the harbour.
The system was aligned for a clear line-of-sight beam path and tested live on site. Speed tests confirmed solid performance in the mid-50 Mbps range — more than enough for cameras, remote access, office use and general data traffic.
Key Stages of the Install
Unboxing and checking the Ubiquiti UDB-Pro units
Mounting and precise alignment at both ends
Establishing the wireless link across the water
Live speed testing and final verification
Full system handover the same day
Why This Matters for Herefordshire
Many properties in Herefordshire face similar challenges. Farms with multiple buildings, rural businesses, industrial units and sites separated by roads, rivers or fields often struggle with expensive trenching or unreliable WiFi.
A properly installed point-to-point wireless bridge offers a clean, cost-effective alternative. It delivers:
High-speed connectivity without digging
Reliable performance over several hundred metres to a mile or more
Support for CCTV, Starlink distribution, office networks and IoT devices
Fast installation with minimal disruption
We regularly complete this type of work across Ross-on-Wye, Leominster, Ledbury, Bromyard, Hereford and the surrounding rural areas.
